21 Local Businesses Raise $10,500 for Humane Society of Harford County
The holiday spirit was alive and well in Harford County, thanks to the local couple that owns Bel Air’s Route 24 Ale House and Lean Kitchen. For the last eight years, Jason and Katie Davis challenge their fellow business owners to host an event to raise funds for the care and comfort of homeless animals at the Humane Society of Harford County (HSHC). Known collectively as Deck the Paws, 21 local businesses raised $10,500 over the 2023 holiday season.
“I want to extend my gratitude not just to Jason and Katie and all the businesses who hosted an event and donated their proceeds, but also to the folks who bought a raffle ticket, dropped their spare change in a donation jar, or bought a ticket to an event,” said Bob Citrullo, HSHC’s executive director. “The number of animals we took in last year went up 22%, and visits to our pet food pantry went up 54%. Thanks to Deck the Paws, we can be there for pets and people in need.”
“The humane society is such an important resource in the community,” said Katie Davis. “Jason and I consider our pets to be family, and we do this every year so that needy animals can get the care and treatment they need to get back on their feet and find loving homes.”
