“Afterimage” Exhibit to Open in Chesapeake Gallery

The Chesapeake Gallery at Harford Community College will host a new exhibit titled “Afterimage” by artist Hannah Vogel from October 2 to November 2, 2023. All are invited to the opening reception with an artist talk to be held on Saturday, October 14, 5-6:30 PM in the Chesapeake Gallery in the College’s Student Center.

A Philadelphia-based artist who makes sculptures and installation works, Hannah stated, “I create imaginary landscapes and growths to investigate the effects of entropy on our environments. I transform the commonplace materials of porcelain, paper, and wire into unfamiliar forms and textures that evoke growth, decay, and the tenuousness of our surroundings.   . . . porcelain lattices defy their structural improbability to reflect their fragility back on the viewer; a wrinkled, skin-like coating of paper is stained and slowly decayed by its rusting steel wire skeleton. My work asserts the craft-based primacy of the handmade, grounding itself in the physical world on which we all, ultimately, rely.”

The Chesapeake Gallery is located on the second floor of the Student Center on Harford Community College’s campus at 401 Thomas Run Road in Bel Air. Parking is free and handicap parking is available close to the gallery. Gallery hours are Mondays and Thursdays, 8:30 AM – 7 PM; Tuesdays and Wednesdays, 8:30 AM – 5 PM; and Fridays, 8:30 AM – 4:30 PM. The gallery is closed on weekends and major holidays.

The College’s Chesapeake Gallery features contemporary art by emerging and established artists, as well as Harford’s faculty, staff, and students. It serves as a vital educational link between the community and the practice of art and design in the region. View the current Chesapeake Gallery exhibit at https://www.chesapeakegallery.org/.
