Standing Watch as Boaters Enter Mariner Point Park on the Gunpowder River

The residents of Joppatowne saw their old Mariner get destroyed, and it was heartbreaking to many of them. The people cherish the Mariner just as much as the Alumni of Joppatowne High School cherish the anchor in front of the school. And when the old man by the river was destroyed by jumping in front of a driver (that’s another story), and termites decided to eat away at him, the people of Joppatowne were determined to either get him fixed or replaced.

County Executive Barry Glassman was at Mariner Point Park to unveil the new Mariner. Plenty of residents turned out for the event and they were very excited to see the new statue. It must be a sign of things to blossom again in Joppatowne, because the park is located right next to Joppatowne Marina which just opened in October after new owners from Joppatowne purchased it. Now boaters and park goers will have someone watching over them all the time as they enter Mariner Point Park.
