Worldwide Car-Free Day, Tuesday, September 22, is an opportunity for all motorists to reduce traffic congestion, improve air quality and save hard-earned dollars at the gas pump by traveling in ways that are more efficient, affordable and environmentally friendly.   Harford Transit’s Commute Smart Division encourages motorists to consider walking, biking, carpooling and vanpooling, or mass transit options such as commuter buses, MARC Train, Light Rail and Harford Transit LINK buses.   In recognition of Car-Free Day, Commute Smart has also partnered with Harford Community College to provide students and staff with a Bike to Campus Rally and free Harford Transit LINK bus passes for September 22.

The free Harford Transit LINK bus passes for Car-Free Day are available now on the HCC campus at the Student Activities Center.  Commute Smart will also be on site several days in advance to hand out passes and commuting information.

The Bike to Campus Rally will be held on September 22 from 8:30 – 11:30 a.m., and will include giveaways, prizes, and light refreshments for participating students and staff.  Representatives from The Bike Shop of Bel Air will also be on hand to provide free bicycle checkups.  Cyclists are encouraged to register in advance at [email protected] or by calling 410-612-1620.

“Harford Commute Smart is pleased to support transportation alternatives for HCC’s commuters on Car-Free Day, but everyone can benefit from this worldwide event,” said Alan Doran, rideshare coordinator for Harford County government.  “The day is about encouraging commuters to choose transportation options that improve the environment and quality of life for us all.”
