[Bel Air, Maryland] April 8, 2014Habitat for Humanity Susquehanna will partner with Lennar, one of the nation’s leading homebuilders for all generations, to construct two new homes for two first-time homeowners in just five days. The partnership is part of the nationwide Home Builders Blitz 2014, in which Habitat for Humanity partners with home builder associations across the country to construct 300 new homes in just one work week.

During the week of June 2-6, 2014, contractors, subcontractors and volunteers from the local community will work around the clock to build two new homes on a parcel in the 500 block of 1st Street in Aberdeen, Maryland. The families for whom the homes are being built will also participate in the process by serving food to the builders and volunteers and contributing their own sweat equity to the project. Their efforts will culminate in a dedication ceremony on Friday, June 6 at 10:30 a.m. during which the keys to the two homes will be handed over to their new owners.

“This has lifted such a huge burden from our family,” said Adrienne Brooks, a mother of four and grandmother of one. “It was impossible to keep up with the expenses of everyday life and a son in college. I was drowning in a sea of desperation when Habitat threw me a line and rescued me and gave us hope of living an affordable lifestyle.”

“It is always such a special moment when hard-working families finally take the keys to their new forever home—a home built as a result of the love that overflows out of their own community,” said Karen Blandford, Executive Director of Habitat for Humanity Susquehanna. “I am especially grateful for the generosity of Lennar to help make this moment possible. Lennar is known for their excellent, quality craftsmanship and I know that these beautiful new homes will have a positive impact on the entire neighborhood.”

Rod Hart, the president of Lennar’s Maryland Division commented, “Lennar and our trade partners are committed to the growth and revitalization of this community. It is a privilege to employ our collective skills and  expertise to provide people with quality, affordable  housing and hope that the Builder Blitz will be the catalyst that encourages others to  consider how to best use their individual talent to address the needs of others in their communities.”

Habitat for Humanity of Susquehanna is currently in the approval process for a second family for its 2014 Blitz Build and can provide additional information once a family has been approved.
