Recently, preschoolers at The Goddard School located in Bel Air, MD and in Forest Hill, MD teamed up with 14 other locations across Baltimore for a charitable book drive!

The book drive took place during the week of Dr. Seuss’ birthday and Read Across America Day (March 2, 2016) to benefit The Maryland Book Bank – a local nonprofit that provides books to low-income families so reading skills can be supported from a very young age. The Bel Air, MD and Forest Hill, MD preschoolers collected 10,053 books, and the Baltimore area as a whole collected 24,103 books and $1,600 in funding. The preschoolers significantly exceeded their goal of collecting 20,000 books for the charity.

During the book drive, Senator J.B. Jennings came to The Goddard School located in Bel Air, MD to read his favorite Dr. Seuss books to the kids and share Dr. Seuss cakes with them.

This initiative was very impactful to the Baltimore community, as studies have shown that giving children access to age-appropriate books and reading aloud to children are essential for developing language and reading skills. Being read to as a young child is one of the strongest predictors of success in school and in life! With this donation from The Goddard School, thousands of children in the Baltimore area will now have access to this critical resource.
