On January 20, Habitat for Humanity Susquehanna held a home dedication ceremony for Habitat homebuyer Juél Ebron and her teenaged son. This is the final home dedication ceremony for the subdivision located on the lot bordering Freedom, Revolution and Stokes streets, Havre de Grace. This was the first (and only) subdivision Habitat Susquehanna has undertaken in its 30-year history. The seven-homes subdivision is comprised of one single-family home and three duplexes.

“This ceremony is meant to celebrate the end of a house build, when we recognize all of the hard work and dedication that our volunteers, sponsors, donors, partner families, staff, and other supporters have put into this home,” said Yvonne Golczewski, Executive Director of Habitat Susquehanna. “Family and friends will gather for joyous times in the rooms of this house. Juél and her son will create beautiful memories here, in a place where they can dream and plan for their future. A place to call home.”

The Major House Sponsors ($10K and higher) were: Amazon; Harford County Government; APGFCU; Frederick Ward Associates; Women’s Build 2022; Bel Air United Methodist Church; Hatzel & Buehler, Inc.; The Dresher Foundation; Maryland Affordable Housing Trust; St. Margaret Parish; Hollywood Casino; Gutter Guys; and, Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development – Community Legacy.

The House Sponsors ($2500-$9999) were: Women’s Giving Circle of Harford County; Allan Myers; Altus; D&S Drywall Inc.; Harford Mutual Insurance; CarMax; City of Havre de Grace; ShopRite; Decisive Data Systems; Capital Building Supply; Civil Utility Construction Company Inc.; Dilworth Trucking and Excavating; Vulcan Materials Company; First National Bank; Community Affordable Housing; Equity Corp.; and, Evergreen Garden Club.

As with all Habitat homebuyers, Juél was required to contribute 250 “sweat equity” hours building her home or the home of another; take mandatory financial literacy classes to learn good money management skills; and, take home maintenance classes. Juél will be purchasing her home through a Habitat mortgage made affordable specifically for her. Juél’s home is made more affordable thanks to volunteer support and sponsorships that keep construction costs low.

Approved homebuyers must go through the rigorous financial review process to ensure they are eligible candidates for Habitat Susquehanna’s Homeownership Program. The eligibility criteria include demonstrating a housing need; showing an ability to make monthly mortgage payments; and, willingness to partner with Habitat Susquehanna.
