Congratulations To Our Business Of The Week

Thompson Automotive Group

This week we are proud to feature Thompson Automotive Group as our Business of the Week.

About the Business

Let us start by congratulating Thompson Automotive Group on winning the 2021 Harford County Living Choice Award for Favorite Local Car Dealer.

In 1929, Edmund Thompson started up shop with the hope that if people gave his exceptional goods and services a try, they would become lifelong patrons. While many businesses failed when the Great Depression hit, the Try-Me Service Station thrived. Edmund, encouraged by his early success, decided to apply his customer-first concept to the vehicle sales industry, thereby giving rise to the Thompson Automotive Group.

Edmund began as a dealer of previously used automobiles but by 1936 he was also selling new Willys vehicles. The addition of the Studebaker brand in 1937 caused him to quickly outgrow his facility. In 1940, he demolished the previous gas station to make space for a new one.

Thankfully, Edmund has maintained his unwavering commitment to serving his clients. During World War II, when manufacture of new cars ceased, he returned to his company’s beginnings as a full-service petrol station and successfully maintained operations.
