Best Destination for Daytrip, Overnight or Staycation …

One of the oldest and best known, fine art and craft events in the region is still going strong and has added many things new this year.

First off, the dates have moved to cooler weather with the show being held on Saturday, October 23 and Sunday, October 24, 2021 in Tydings Memorial Park and Concord Point Park, Havre de Grace, Maryland.

Tydings Memorial Park in historic Havre de Grace, Maryland has been the site of the art show since its inception by the late Dr. Gunther Hirsch in 1963. New this year, the show is expanding from one park to two parks, adding Concord Point Park with a waterfront promenade adjoining the two parks.

“We are excited about this expansion because the added park enables us to provide more social distanced experience for our patrons and participants. This event is a great weekend destination or daytrip and the perfect place to start your holiday shopping!” remark Cindy Height and Betsy Keithley, show organizers from ArtUnion.

This two-day juried art show highlights quality work by artists, makers and craftspeople exhibiting and selling original work.

Fine arts and handmade crafts available will range from watercolor, acrylic and oil paintings, drawing, printmaking to fiber work, floral, glass, jewelry, soap, metal work, photography, pottery, basketry, ceramics, sculpture, and woodworking. The event will feature a myriad of fine performers and specially selected food vendors representing the culinary arts.

The 2020 commemorative poster with a local water scene by photographer Sean Simmons will be featured and available to purchase due to cancelation of our public outdoor event last year. Sean will be available to sign posters next to the ArtUnion/Concord Lighthouse canopies at the entrance of the Concord Point location.

The art show is well known for inspiring and encouraging young artists, some of which in adulthood have continued to become working professional artists, from teachers to illustrators to museum curators. To encourage youth the Art Show accepts grade school students to show with no fee and college art students at a reduced fee.

The event will include live entertainment, featuring an array of genres, starting at 10 am on Saturday, October 23 with a living history performance by Professor Colleen Webster as Georgia O’Keeffe on stage at Concord Point Park. Sunday, October 24 features Petty Coat Junction- a Tom Petty Tribute Band and the 229th MD Army National Guard Jazz Band. The Kids Zone located adjacent to the playground in Tydings Park will include face painting by Miki, craft workshops, and on Sunday Professor Horner’s Punch & Judy Show. Also, attendees may be a part of the Havre de Grace Art Show Public Art Project and help create a work of art during the two days.

This admission free event overlooks the picturesque Susquehanna River and headwaters of the Chesapeake Bay. Presented by ArtUnion in partnership with the Friends of Concord Point Lighthouse, this all volunteer-run fundraiser will benefit the beautiful historic Concord Point Lighthouse and various cultural arts projects. ArtUnion is committed to building a world that engages artists, culture, and creativity as catalysts for community vibrancy, sustainability, prosperity, and inclusiveness. ArtUnion is dedicated to promoting the education of the performing, literary and visual arts.
