United Way of Central Maryland today announced it received a $150,000 grant from Truist Financial Corporation for the non-profit’s COVID-19 Community Fund to support people and organizations in need during this pandemic.

The grant is part of the financial service company’s Truist Cares initiative, a $25 million philanthropic pledge announced in March 2020 to support basic needs, medical supplies, and financial hardship relief due to COVID-19.

United Way’s COVID-19 Community Fund was established to provide what’s needed, where it’s needed – supporting families and individuals, healthcare workers and first responders, and other nonprofits strained by the impact of the pandemic.

“For 95 years, United Way has been there to help people in this region: through wars, recessions, and natural disasters. We’re here to meet immediate needs, and to provide support and assistance to address the increased, long-term need we know we will see as the impact of this pandemic continues to unfold,” said Franklyn Baker, president and CEO, United Way of Central Maryland. “This grant from Truist amplifies our efforts and is a testament to their commitment to the future health and well-being of the people of Greater Baltimore.”

“Our purpose at Truist is to inspire and build better lives and communities, and we are happy to have been able to support United Way of Central Maryland with this grant,” said Greg Farno, Maryland President at Truist. “We are thankful for the important work they do around the Baltimore community year-round but especially so during this challenging time for families and children.”
