(Belcamp, Maryland – May 1, 2014) SECAC, the parent led organization that bridges the communication between the Harford County Public School Department of Special Education and the Board of Education with parents and community members, generously donated a collection of books on autism and other child special needs to Harford County Public Library.
“Enhancing partnerships with community organizations is part of SECAC’s mission and working with the public library system is a perfect fit,” stated Dawn Markovic, SECAC representative. “Parents need information and what better way than to get the resources on the Library shelves for the community to access!”
“We truly appreciate this donation from SECAC,” stated Jennifer Ralston, Library Materials Management Administrator. “These materials will enhance our current adult and Parent Teacher collections that cover the autism spectrum and other special needs. The ability to partner with organizations such as SECAC is a great benefit for the community of parents, teachers, and caregivers.”
Several titles were donated including Raising Boys with ADHD by James W. Forgan & Mary Anne Richey; The Survival Guide for Kids with Autism Spectrum Disorders by Elizabeth Verdick & Elisabeth Reeve, MD; and Children with High-Functioning Autism by Claire E. Hughes-Lynch, Ph. D. These books along with the entire collection of special needs materials are available to reserve online at HCPLonline.org and can be delivered to any Library branch. A staff member at any branch can also provide assistance.
