American Legion Post 55 Commander Hank Allen announced this week that National Commander Paul Dillard will be visiting Post 55 located at 115 N Bond Street in Bel Air on March 12, 2022. A program welcoming the Commander is planned for 9:00am and the public is welcome to attend.

“It’s an honor to have Commander Dillard visit our post. His visit is also a testament to the
importance of memorializing SGT. Alfred B. Hilton,” Commander Hank Allen stated of the National
Commander’s visit “If you have not seen the mural, we invite you to do so Saturday morning.”

Dillard is visiting Post 55 to see the mural that has been painted on the building. The mural
depicts a battle scene that includes SGT. Alfred B. Hilton, Harford County’s only native Medal of Honor
recipient. SGT. Hilton succumbed to injuries sustained during the battle at Chaffin’s Farm in Virginia.
The mural is dedicated to the bravery and heroism of a tenacious colored soldier who fought to win
the Civil War for the United States of America.
