Harford County Public Schools (HCPS) proudly announces that Ann Garner, the Cafeteria Lead at
Emmorton Elementary School, has been named the 2024 Maryland School Nutrition Association
Employee of the Year. This prestigious recognition honors Ms. Garner’s dedication to her students
and her exceptional contributions to the school meal program, which has made her a beloved and
indispensable member of the Emmorton Elementary School community.

The Maryland School Nutrition Association Employee of the Year Award is given to school nutrition
employees who demonstrate excellence in customer service, a passion for supporting young people,
commitment to teamwork, and a creative approach to meal planning. Ms. Garner has spent nearly a
decade at Emmorton Café, where her enthusiasm for creating memorable, fun, and nutritious dining
experiences is evident in every meal she serves. Beyond her technical skills, Ms. Garner’s kindness
and approachability have fostered a warm and welcoming environment for her students, helping to
make the cafeteria a place where students feel valued and cared for.

Initially selected as the 2024 Harford County Public Schools Food and Nutrition Employee of the
Year, Ms. Garner’s dedication will now be celebrated on a broader stage, as she moves on to
represent Maryland in the regional judging round of the award in early 2025. Should she advance
further, Ms. Garner could become a contender for the National School Nutrition Association
Employee of the Year award.

“Ann Garner is a shining example of the commitment, care, and creativity we strive to bring to every
area of our schools,” said Superintendent Dr. Sean Bulson. “Her dedication not only to the students
but to the quality and enjoyment of the school meal experience is inspiring, and we are thrilled to see
her recognized for her invaluable contributions.”

Please join HCPS in congratulating Ms. Ann Garner on her outstanding achievement and in wishing
her the best as she continues to make a difference in the lives of students and staff at Emmorton
Elementary School and beyond.
