Dr. Theresa B. Felder, president of Harford Community College, presented the 2024 Harford Community College Distinguished Alumni Award to Anthony C. Comes at the College’s 66th Annual Commencement Ceremony on May 23, 2024. Recipients of the award have attained outstanding success in their chosen profession, demonstrated a commitment to the community, and maintained an interest in and service to Harford Community College.

Comes graduated from Harford Community College in 2007 after earning an Associate of Applied Science degree. During his time at Harford, he served on the College’s Technology Committee as a student representative and was a member of the Student Government Association (SGA), eventually becoming the SGA President. During his tenure with SGA, the organization grew to over 60 active members.

Following his time at Harford, Comes attended the University of Maryland at College Park where he continued his student involvement as a University Senator and teaching assistant.

After college, he returned home to take the reins of the family business, Emerald Builders, a general contractor located in Jarrettsville. With Comes’ leadership, the company has grown, hiring more employees and branching out in new ways to tackle conventional projects.

Despite working seven days a week, he manages to find time for his hobbies. When he is not busy building creative museum displays or working on multimillion-dollar corporate projects, Comes likes to make use of his pilot’s license and enjoys traveling to new destinations.

Comes is a 2023 graduate of the Harford Leadership Academy (HLA). Co-sponsored by Harford Community College and the Harford County Chamber of Commerce, HLA is designed to promote the development of emerging and existing leaders and to create a committed, involved, and diverse network within Harford County.

Staying true to his passion for service to others, he currently serves as a member of the Harford Community College Foundation Board of Directors, hoping to encourage current students to achieve their dreams and inspire future generations.
