May is recognized as National Foster Care Month, a time to raise awareness about the critical need for foster families and the valuable role they play in supporting children in need. This month-long observance highlights the unique challenges faced by children in the foster care system, while also celebrating the incredible impact that foster parents and caregivers have on the lives of children and youth. National Foster Care Month is an opportunity to honor the dedication and commitment of foster parents, social workers, advocates, and others who work tirelessly to ensure the safety, well-being, and success of children in foster care. It is also a time to encourage more individuals and families to consider fostering and to learn about the many ways they can support the needs of vulnerable children in their communities.
Steve Acerno is the Director of Treatment Foster Care at The Arc Northern Chesapeake Region. Steve has over twenty years of experience in working within the foster care system. Steve is passionate about advocating for youth in foster care and is privileged to be part of the Arc NCR family. His team of dedicated staff work closely with the youth and foster families to build relationships and work toward permanency for all the children.

She has a background in psychology with a bachelor’s degree from Towson University, as well as some graduate education from the MSW program at Salisbury University. She previously worked as a CPS caseworker for a local Maryland department of social services office. Jennifer has always wanted to work within child welfare. After having her second child, she reentered the workforce. Jennifer found Arrow Child & Family Ministries, which aligned with her beliefs. “Working for Arrow in the Treatment Foster Care unit has been amazing, and I am looking forward to my future here with Arrow.” Jennifer stated,
