The Highlands School Library was Revamped and Rededicated to Founder Vicki Whitaker

The Highlands School recently rededicated its library in honor of Vicki Whitaker, one of the school’s founders. Whitaker taught for many years at the school and served as a school administrator. Whitaker is now an active member of The Highlands School’s Board of Directors.

“It was an honor to rededicate our library to Vicki Whitaker who continues to pour her heart and soul into The Highlands School each and every day,” said Head of School Claudia Nachtigal. “Throughout the years she has continued to care deeply about the success of each student and helping families across our community. We cannot think of anyone more deserving of this honor.”

The library, now named the “Vicki Whitaker Library,” is organized by reading level rather than by author, which fosters student independence and a love of reading. Led by Highlands School parent Danielle Mason, a team of community volunteers and retired librarians added hundreds of new books and reorganized the texts to ensure student success in independent reading.

“Thanks to parents and other volunteers our library has never looked better! Students are more excited than ever about reading since our library received its makeover and tons of new books. Our students can’t wait to check out the new titles,” said Nachtigal.

Parents, teachers, and friends of the school attended the library rededication ribbon cutting and ceremony.
