The Highlands School Opens Learning Center


The Highlands School, a Harford County based K-8 private school that educates students with learning differences and achievement gaps, today announced the opening of its Learning Center.

The Highlands School Learning Center is open to all students and offers numerous services including

  • Individualized virtual and in-person tutoring
  • After-school homework assistance
  • Executive Function Skills Training
  • Test preparation for exams including but not limited to the PSAT, ACT, SAT, high school placement exams and Vocational or Professional Exams

Tutoring subjects include

  • Reading
  • Spelling
  • Handwriting
  • Phonological Awareness
  • Comprehension
  • Written Expression
  • Math

Executive Function training strengthens skills in planning, organization, time management, attention, working memory and more.

There is no formal testing for students interested in Learning Center services. Students will be assessed by Highlands School experts to determine how best they might help at no additional cost to families.

“We are thrilled that our new learning center is up and running,” said Highlands School Head Claudia Nachtigal. “Our highly skilled and experienced tutors are ready to help more students reach new levels of success especially after the Covid-19 pandemic exacerbated achievement gaps for so many.”

The Highlands School is an AIMS-accredited school that educates students with learning differences and achievement gaps. Founded in 1996, The Highlands School was originally located in Street, Maryland. In 2007, The Highlands School moved to a beautiful 18-acre campus in Bel Air, Maryland that was once home to the Preakness-winning racehorse Deputed Testamony.
