“An Evening with Florence Nightingale: A Reluctant Celebrity” will be presented in Harford Community College’s Chesapeake Theater on October 19 at 7 PM.

Welcome to the world of Victorian England, where women were considered possessions and had no right to obtain higher education, own land, have a bank account, or vote. Pushing back against the status quo, Nightingale was a visionary statistician and social reformer, researcher, author, adventurer, nurse, and population health advocate who, when she returned from the Crimean War (and for the next 50 years), used her celebrity status to influence health policy on four continents.

The witty and wise Miss Florence Nightingale will show audience members a new way to think about healthcare—from the way you thought it was, to the way it may yet become. This character portrayal by award-winning actor and author Dr. Candy Campbell provides a delightful presentation of thought-provoking fun and poignant exploration of our current state of health, based on Nightingale’s writings.

Tickets are $5 for general admission and free for Harford Community College students and are available at harfordevents.com or by calling 443-412-2211. For disability-related accommodations, please call 443-412-2211 at least two weeks in advance.

This show is sponsored by Maryland State Arts Council, The Dresher Foundation, the Liriodendron Foundation, Hilton Garden Inn, and Harford Community College.
