In this episode, Rich has a conversation with Sherri Simms and Rich Nunn.
Sherri Simms’s passion for the environment and desire to find synergies between occupants’ overall well-being, smart business decisions, and sustainability led her to co-found ABI Advantage LLC (“ABI”) in 2014. With her background in mathematics, teaching, and managing ABI, Sherri not only oversees ABI’s day-to-day operation but also pulls value out of raw data and finds ways to present it in informative ways. She is proficient with SkySpark Ⓡ ’s Axon programming language, a powerful tool used for energy analysis, commissioning, measurement and verification, and more, and she has integrated it with multiple third-party software to maximize its value. Sherri holds a Master’s Degree in the Art of Teaching Mathematics as well as a Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics from Towson University. In Sherri’s spare time, you may find her volunteering for the school, scouts, or a robotics league or hiking, camping, and going on adventures with her husband, Leroy, who is also one of her business partners, and their three children.
Rich Nunn is an energy specialist with over a decade of successful experience in identifying and implementing energy efficiency measures. Rich has a history of developing creative solutions for his client’s from both a technology and financial perspective. He is a strong believer in working in concert with his customers to empower them to exceed all their sustainability goals. As a natural collaborator, his team approach assures the most effective solutions are identified and all barriers to implementation are overcome. Rich enjoys long walks in the woods with his wife, playing basketball at the park with his son, and fishing any place there’s water. His favor quote is “I’ve never met a donut I didn’t like.”
Leroy Simms has spent the last twenty-plus years improving the performance of commercial buildings and honing his skills in identifying improvement opportunities and root cause analysis. His story began in field diagnostics of mechanical systems, moved to building automation system design and programming, and energy management. Throughout those phases of his career he saw how poorly the average building operated and recognized the need for building analytics and Monitoring Based Commissioning (MBCx). Leroy’s diverse background made him well suited for this new industry and since 2014 Leroy has been devoted to improving the MBCx process. He is a regular contributor to the development of the Haystack meta-data protocol and currently provides MBCx services to several million square feet of diverse building space. Leroy holds a BS in HVAC Engineering from Ferris State University, a Master HVAC License, Master Electrical License, and is a Certified Energy Manager. Leroy also enjoys kayaking, camping, and exploring the great outdoors with his family.
