The Humane Society of Harford County Overflowing with Dogs
Since Sunday, March 13, twenty new dogs have arrived at the Humane Society of Harford County (HSHC), filling the shelter’s dog kennels to capacity. All 65 kennels inside are occupied, so no empty kennels remain for new arrivals. To encourage interest, adoption fees on all dogs have been reduced to just $16 (regularly $35-250).
“If you’ve been considering adoption, now is the time,” said executive director Jen Swanson. “The first day of spring is Sunday, so with the warmer weather that’s headed our way, it’s the perfect time to get outside with a new friend.”
The Humane Society of Harford County is located at 2208 Connolly Road, Fallston, MD 21047. To see the dogs available for adoption, visit HarfordShelter.org/animals/dogs and plan a visit. HSHC is open from 2pm until 6pm weekdays and 12pm-5pm on Saturdays. Interested adopters can fill out an adoption application online to get pre-approved or complete the application in person. As part of the adoption process, families should be prepared to bring their resident dog(s) for a “meet and greet” if they are considering adopting another dog.
Although adoption fees are waived, regular adoption procedures apply. Animals adopted from HSHC include a distemper vaccination, canine kennel cough vaccination, a rabies vaccination (if age appropriate), de-wormer, flea & tick preventative, the spay or neuter procedure, a microchip, a free sample bag of Hill’s Science Diet dry food, and a general exam.
“We’re also extending an open invitation to all partner shelters and rescue organizations to visit and take animals into their programs,” Swanson added. “And of course, we welcome donations as well to help us care for the influx of animals.”
