The award-winning family skills workshop is designed for those with children ages 6-11 and has been proven to build better parent-child relationships and reduce negative behaviors.  There is no cost to participate in the 11-week course which will begin in February with sessions held virtually on either Tuesday or Thursday evenings.

After a highly acclaimed launch in 2021, The SUCCESS Project team is excited to announce that another session of the Strengthening Families Program (SFP) will be offered beginning in February. The celebrated curriculum has been used around the world to improve familial relationships and reduce risk factors for behavioral and social problems. The program is made possible by a grant from the Harford County Department of Community Services and is free for participants. Classes are held via weekly zoom meetings on either Tuesday or Thursday nights from 5:30-7:30pm starting February 22/24 and continuing through May 3/5. Prizes and incentives will be awarded each week of the 11-week course.  Registration is required with limited space available. Learn more about the Strengthening Families Program and sign up here.

SFP Zoom Meeting 2021: Families can participate in The SUCCESS Project Strengthening Families Program through free, virtual classes. The award-winning family skills workshop is designed for those with children ages 6 through 11. Registration forms can be downloaded at theupwardclimb.org/strengthening-families-program.html

The Strengthening Families Program was developed in 1982 by Dr. Karol Kumpfer, a psychology professor at the University of Utah, and is designed for families with school aged kids. Through a series of structured games, activities and discussions, parents learn how to better monitor their children’s emotional well-being and reduce risk factors for substance abuse, mental health problems and delinquency. Learn more about the SFP here.  The techniques have proven effective internationally for both high-risk and general population families; and local participants in the first SUCCESS Project session shared much positive feedback about the program, too. Nicki Biggs, Executive Director of The SUCCESS Project, says, “The mission of our organization is to give clients the knowledge and tools to overcome adversity, and the Strengthening Families Program builds a foundation to do exactly that. Our first-year participants raved about the communication skills gained and close bonds formed, so we are eager to help more families better connect with each other and learn how to address difficult behavior through this free, digital program.”
