On September 1, 2021 the Harford County Health Department opened the 1 N. Main Family Health Center, its newest health care site. The Center was designed to serve the health care needs of families in our community, with a strong focus on our youth and adolescents. While the health department also offers all of the health center’s services at its other locations, the 1 N. Main Family Health Center brings these services together at one location for client convenience. The site’s wraparound services provide a comprehensive, holistic, youth and family-driven way of responding to health and mental health needs in our community.
The newly launched 1 North Main Family Health Center, in the heart of Bel Air, makes it easier than ever for patients to receive both health and mental health care. The site offers women’s health care services, including health consultations, free pregnancy testing and referrals. A dental clinic offers comprehensive dental services for children on medical assistance and both expectant and postpartum mothers for up to 12 months after a birth. The behavioral health clinic includes providers with special expertise in youth and adolescent behavioral health who can also help connect adults with mental health concerns, including addiction, to providers in the area. Additionally, the 1 North Main Family Health Center includes Care Coordination staff ready to assist clients in accessing heath care and community resources, including other health department services such as tobacco cessation, cancer prevention, and diabetes prevention. Staff can assist with applications for free health care through the Maryland Children’s Health Program to income eligible pregnant women. Finally, the space is also a home for the Women’s Infants and Children (WIC) nutrition program. Bringing all these services together at one site demonstrates a true wraparound approach to health care.
According to Marcy Austin, Deputy Health Officer, “We are so excited to be able to offer these types of services to our community. It started as a grand idea a year and a half ago, and even though COVID caused an unwanted interruption, the project has finally come to fruition. We could not be happier. Offering so many services at one location is so important for the families we serve and we are proud of the convenience it offers. The professional and customer service friendly staff provide the level of care that everyone deserves.”
The health department continues to serve its community in its other convenient locations in Edgewood, Havre de Grace, and Bel Air.
