A Success Tip!

You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take” – said by all the greats – Michael Jordan, Wayne Gretzky, Kobe Bryant, Bob McKenzie.

What does this mean? If you are waiting for opportunities to come to you, you may be waiting a long time. While opportunities may fall onto your lap once in a blue moon, it’s more of a wait-and-potentially-never-see approach. Do you feel that others are often seeing successes in their lives? Do you feel it’s not fair? Here’s the one thing you are not doing…you aren’t asking for what you want!

If you want something…ASK. Sure, you may hear the word you fear most, “no”, but personally, I feel that’s just a sign you’re trying. Maybe you need to change your approach, do more prep work, keep learning, or keep asking, but “no” is not an end all be all.

I’ve had some pretty amazing things happen in the last 6-8 months, simply because I asked. There will always be someone who is younger, less experienced than you doing what you want to do simply because they were brave enough to.

I recently listened to a podcast saying that women are less likely to apply for jobs because they don’t feel they fit all the criterion listed in a job post. Those in the HR field may tell you, if you find a candidate that hit all the criterion, you’ve found a unicorn. While that’s great, it’s not necessarily expected. It goes to show that many of us tend to hold back on what we really want and are typically qualified for. Our limiting beliefs hold us back.

At the end of the day, doing the thing that feels scary is probably the thing you should do! Preparation is important, but action is better!

What’s something you wish you had the courage to do? First, ask yourself for permission to do the thing. You may be surprised at what happens after.
