Military Saves Month
Promoting automatic savings to help service members and their families reach their savings goals
As part of Military Saves Month 2021, scheduled for April 1 – 30, 2021, Freedom Federal Credit Union and Aberdeen Proving Ground Federal Credit Union (APGFCU®) are spreading the message of saving successfully and encouraging the military community to make saving automatic. The Credit Unions have joined together to sponsor a month-long campaign to encourage and incentivize saving money among service members and their families.
As the nation, state, and community continue to face significant challenges due to the COVID-19 pandemic, credit unions continue to advocate and support financial well-being among their members and the community as a whole. Credit unions, which offer member-owned, not-for-profit banking, have a long history of partnering to support the community. Both Freedom Federal Credit Union and APGFCU have a deep-rooted commitment to supporting financial wellness for local military families.
To help encourage military families to make saving a priority, both credit unions are offering a limited-time $50 bonus to Department of Defense employees, military contractors, active duty, reserve, National Guard and retired military personnel and their family members 18 years and older for opening a new membership account at either credit union. The bonus is intended to incentivize the military and their families to get to know the Credit Unions and to begin their journey to long-term, automatic saving. The Credit Unions encourage new military members to set up direct deposit and enroll in their respective savings programs to continue to grow their nest eggs.
As the two installation Credit Unions, Freedom Federal Credit Union and APGFCU collaborate on this initiative annually to encourage service members and their families to take a proactive approach to their financial wellness.
Military Saves is an initiative of America Saves and the Consumer Federation of America. The annual celebration serves as a call to action for the military community to commit to saving successfully.
Military Saves is also a nationwide effort and is supported by hundreds of participating organizations, who encourage service members and their families to do a ‘gut-check’ on their finances and saving behaviors. The Military Saves pledge is the framework that allows military savers to set a goal and make a plan to achieve better financial stability.
