It’s the start of a new year and motivation to workout tends to be sky high. For many, however, motivation goes away as quickly as it came. Here are 4 tips you can implement to keep that momentum going all year long!

TIP #1: GET YOUR MIND RIGHT

Mindset is everything. It really is. Self-sabotage is our brain’s defense mechanism and results in lots of procrastination. Ever tell yourself you’ll workout starting Monday or tell yourself you’re gonna wake up early the next day to squeeze in that workout? And how did that work out for you? Chances are, you kept pushing it off or it was many, many days until you actually got around to exercising. Flip the script and rewrite that narrative.

TIP #2: DIG DEEP TO FIND YOUR WHY

Finding your why goes much deeper than wanting to shed a few lbs and wanting to fit into that piece of clothing. There are always deep-rooted emotions behind our reasons of wanting to kickstart and maintain a healthy lifestyle. It’s not an easy nor fun process to do, so many skip this vital step. Spend the time with pen and paper and dig deep.

TIP #3: VISUALIZE AND LIST YOUR GOALS

It’s important to visualize how you want to look and feel in the future. Some may consider it daydreaming, but it’s important to see yourself successful in attaining your goals. Also, writing your goals down on paper and not just thinking about it is an important step. In addition, you want to be specific about your goals and make sure they are easy and realistic.

TIP #4: FACE YOUR FEARS AND THOSE PESKY EXCUSES

When it comes down to it, we all have fears and excuses. Even the best of us. When we are attempting to change our behavior, our brain will convince us to stay the same. Our brains are designed to keep us safe and any change is considered a risk, even a healthy one. Take a deep breath and face your fears!

While these tips are listed in a quick, easy-to-digest manner, to see long-lasting success, you should spend considerable time focusing on each area. It could mean the difference between meeting frustration again or feeling your best each day!
