The Harford County Health Department launched a new COVID-19 vaccination plan webpage housed within their existing COVID-19 vaccine information webpage. This page provides updates as they become available, assists in pre-registration. The health department encourages county residents to visit frequently, as information will change often.
The health department has been holding vaccine clinics for group 1A’s healthcare workers and first responders since January 4. Group 1A includes:
- All licensed, registered and certified health care providers
- Front line hospital staff
- Nursing home residents and staff
- Law enforcement and firefighters, EMS
- Correctional health care staff and officers
- Front line judiciary staff
Additionally, the health department began vaccinations for group 1B on January 19. Those now eligible in group 1B include:
- Assisted living, independent living, and other congregate facilities
- Education staff, including K-12 teachers, support staff and daycare providers
- Continuity of government (defined by the state as elected officials)
- Adults age 75 and older
If you are included in one of the groups listed above, you are currently eligible to receive a COVID-19 vaccination and you should pre-register.
Depending on the availability of vaccine, and the pace at which group 1B is vaccinated, vaccines for group 1C should start soon.
Those soon to eligible in Group 1C include:
- Adults 65-74
- Essential workers in lab services, agriculture, manufacturing, postal service
The health department is encouraging anyone in group 1A, 1B, and 1C to go to the health department’s website https://harfordcountyhealth.com/harfordcovidvax/ to pre-register for a vaccine appointment. Once the individual from group 1A, 1B and 1C has pre-registered, the health department staff will follow up in the near future by emailing a link to secure an appointment. Links are sent after vaccines become available. Vaccinations will be by appointment only and those who come without an appointment will be turned away. Initially, the health department received 5,700 doses of the Moderna vaccine, and continues to receive limited shipments each week. Each vaccine that is delivered to the county is allocated to someone who has pre-registered for a first dose as well as those eligible for their second dose.
According to the Harford County Health Officer, Dr. David Bishai, “During the time that vaccine is scarce, priority groups offer the best way to balance the goals of saving lives, preventing sickness, maintaining the operation of society and preserving fairness.”
To date, the state has successfully allocated and deployed 551,700 doses of COVID-19 vaccines. According to official data from the Maryland Department of Health (MDH), the state has conducted 265,657 vaccinations.
