Even without the thrill of in-person shopping, Harford Family House’s Power of the Purse Virtual Purse Auction was a resounding success! This popular event took place online from Thursday, November 19, 2020, to Sunday, December 13, 2020. Shoppers used a unique auction website link to buy or bid on hundreds of purses. Many of the purses were very popular and shoppers enjoyed the competitive spirit of bidding against one another on their favorite purses. Some shoppers purchased purses as presents for friends and family, just in time for the Holidays, while others decided to treat themselves!

This was the 11th year of the Purse Auction, but it was the first time the event was held completely online. As in past years, many local celebrities, including Kristy Breslin, Mary Hastler, Paige Boyle, and Sarah Klein donated purses and stuffed them full of items that have a special meaning to the donor. Other auction purses were stuffed with items donated by local business owners. Because of the online nature of the event, the selection of retail purses was significantly smaller than in past years, but still provided shoppers with an array of choices.

“We were thrilled with the success of the virtual Purse Auction and amazed by the support we received from the community for this online event!” says Harford Family House CEO, Robin Tomechko. “Funding from this event will help to ensure that families and unaccompanied young adults have a place to call home through the holidays and beyond. We are grateful to everyone who made this event successful!” This event was made possible through the generosity of  Saxon’s Diamond Center, the presenting sponsor. The funds raised from the Purse Auction support Harford Family House, the local non-profit organization dedicated to supporting families with children and unaccompanied young adults in Harford County who are experiencing homelessness.

Additional sponsors contributed to the overall success of the event and include:

Motivator Sponsor-Aberdeen Rotary
