Lions Fresh Cut Christmas Trees Will Be On Sale This Year
Despite the pandemic challenges this year, the Bel Air Lions annual Christmas Tree Sale will take place as usual. Beginning at noon Saturday, November 21, the Bel Air Lions will again have 1,400 fresh trees at the Heavenly Waters parking lot across Rt. 24 from Harford Mall. This will be the 17th annual Christmas tree sale at the 502 Boulton Street location. There will be fresh cut Canadian Balsams and Frasier Firs offered, ranging from 6 to 8 feet. Trees often sell out by mid-December, and 100% of all profits go back into Lions projects in the greater Bel Air community.
Several new procedures will be in place to ensure the buying public and volunteers are safe. Both Lion workers and customers will be required to wear masks on the lot and maintain the required 6 feet social distancing. To minimize one-on-one exposure, the Lions are asking buyers to use credit cards instead of cash or check. But cash and checks will be accepted. Due to the increased cost of trees and business operations, our tree price will be $65 for any size tree. Like last year, tree stands, tree bags, and Water Elves will also be on sale. The VolunTeen Leo youth club will again be supporting the tree sale this year.
“This is the Lions largest fund raiser of the year and, through this and other service efforts, the Bel Air Lions contribute over $40,000 in donations and services back to the community each year. Over time, this event has become an important part of the community’s holiday celebration,” said David Ellis,
Chairman of the Lions Tree Sales program. “We continue to be determined to overcome obstacles to bring quality trees at a reasonable price to our community. This year COVID-19 adds complications to operations, but we are committed to making this important tradition fun and safe for our community.”
The Lions provide many services to the community each year including sight and hearing conservation programs, eyeglasses and hearing aids, support to shelters and food banks, many youth programs including Child Safety Day, scouting, Explorers, Community Service Scholarships, Bear Legacy Trail, Shamrock and Rockfield Parks, assisting youth to attend Diabetes camps, and support to the Miracle League and Kauffman Cancer Center.
