The Harford County Chamber of Commerce and their Military Affairs Committee host a Spirit of Thanks Tour each November in recognition and remembrance of our veterans. In the past, they have gathered members of the Harford County business community and local servicepeople to travel to historically significant locations such as Gettysburg National Battlefield and The National September 11 Memorial.

While they are unable to recognize our military men and women in the same way this year due to the impacts of COVID-19, the Harford County Chamber and the Harford County Office of Community and Economic Development will still celebrate servicepeople through Spirit of Thanks. The Harford County Chamber’s Military Affairs Committee and Spirit of Thanks sponsors will distribute gift bags to local servicemen and women. Each bag will include a gift card so that veterans and active duty service members may enjoy a meal at a local Chamber member restaurant throughout National Veteran’s Month. From November 9th through November 24th, veterans and active-duty service members may pick up their gift bags from 8am-3pm Monday through Friday at 108 S. Bond Street. Those picking up gift bags must present a Veteran ID card or a current Military ID.

During this National Veteran’s Month, the Harford Chamber would like to express gratitude to our military and military families. As Mike MacPherson, President & CEO of Freedom Federal Credit Union, stated at the Harford Chamber’s Military Appreciation event this past May, “You have defined yourselves through actions of respect, duty, honor, sacrifice, and commitment to a greater good. We serve you, we work with you, even emulate you so that our actions define who we are as well. We are therefore grateful to you, and we thank you. We thank you for being who you are, for what you do, and for the values that you uphold.”

As Karen Holt, Co-Chair of the Harford Chamber Military Affairs Committee reminded attendees during that same event, “Let us not forget that freedom is not free.”

Thank you to the 2020 Spirit of Thanks and 2020 Military Appreciation sponsors for helping continue the proud tradition of giving back to those who have given so much:
Freedom Federal Credit Union; Boeing; APGFCU; SURVICE Engineering; Jarrettsville Federal Savings & Loan Association; Melnyk & Wiseman, LLC; Harford County Public Library; Army Alliance Inc.; Harford Community College; Chesapeake Bank of Maryland; Ashley Addiction Treatment; Elegant Restoration, Inc.; The Town of Bel Air; Southern Trust Mortgage; Battelle; The Kelly Group; KatzAbosch; University of Maryland Upper Chesapeake Health; T-N-T Construction; Dave Lehnerd and family; and AUSA Major General Harry Greene, Aberdeen Chapter.
