Amazon’s local leadership team welcomed new associates into the Aberdeen, Md. sort center on Day One.

The new state-of-the-art operation brings more than 1,000 new full- and part-time jobs with industry-leading wages and benefits that start on day one

Amazon has officially launched a new sort center in Maryland, creating more than 1,000 new full- and part-time jobs that provides an industry leading minimum wage of $15 an hour and comprehensive benefits, all starting on day one. Located in Aberdeen, the company’s third sort center in the state will power Amazon’s middle-mile operation capabilities to speed up deliveries for customers in Harford County.

Amazon prioritizes the safety and health of its employees and has invested millions of dollars to provide a safe workplace. Earlier this month, new, full- and part-time employees learned this firsthand after being welcomed inside the nearly 300,000 square-foot sort Aberdeen sort center. Employees will sort packages before they are transferred to a delivery station or last-mile delivery partner for final delivery to customers. These employees join the more than 17,500 full and part-time Amazonians across the state.

“Logistics and distribution centers are a growing and crucial part of our local economy,” Harford County Executive Barry Glassman said. “We are excited to have a global company like Amazon making substantial capital investments and creating jobs in our community.”

Amazon jobs are great jobs with great benefits. On top of Amazon’s $15 minimum wage, the company offers full-time employees industry-leading benefits from day one of employment, including full health, vision and dental insurance, 401(k) with 50 percent company match, up to 20 weeks paid parental leave and Amazon’s innovative Career Choice program, which pre-pays 95% of tuition for courses in high-demand fields. Since the program’s launch, more than 25,000 employees have pursued degrees in game design and visual communications, nursing, IT programming and radiology, to name a few. In addition, Amazon has pledged to invest over $700 million to provide upskilling training for 100,000 U.S. employees for in-demand jobs. Programs will help Amazonians from all backgrounds access training to move into highly skilled roles across the company’s corporate offices, tech hubs, fulfillment centers, retail stores, and transportation network, or pursue career paths outside of Amazon.

In addition to the new Aberdeen sort center, Amazon currently operates four fulfillment centers – two located in Sparrows Point in Baltimore County, one in Baltimore City, and one in North East, two sortation centers in Baltimore City, ten delivery stations, one Prime Now Hub, one Air Hub, 10 Whole Food Market locations, one Amazon Hub Locker+ locations, one Amazon Book store, and four on-site solar locations, including at its newest fulfillment center in Sparrows Point.

Amazon leverages its scale for good and makes investments to support communities. The company’s presence in Maryland means more than just the jobs provided within the four walls of its facilities. In addition to full-benefit, great jobs inside the building, the company has created thousands of jobs in construction and services.

Since 2010, Amazon has created more than 17,500 jobs in Maryland and invested more than $5+ billion across the state, including infrastructure and compensation. These investments have contributed an additional $4.4 billion to the Maryland economy and have helped create more than 11,200 indirect jobs on top of Amazon’s direct hires – from jobs in construction and logistics to professional services. In addition, more than 40,000 independent authors and small and medium businesses in Maryland are selling to customers in Amazon’s store, creating thousands of additional jobs across the state.
