No New Fatalities, Limited Reopening

County Executive Barry Glassman issued the following weekly update on COVID-19 in Harford County:

“This morning’s report from the Maryland Department of Health shows no new fatalities and no new nursing home cases in Harford County since this time last week. The department is reporting a total of 1,078 confirmed COVID-19 cases, 58 deaths and 3 probable deaths among our residents, no active cases in nursing homes, and a 1.94% positivity rate, which is less than half of the state average.

Limited reopenings

Shortly after my last update, Governor Larry Hogan announced limited outdoor visits would be allowed in Maryland nursing homes and some activities could resume for residents as long as safety precautions and strict protocols are followed. All of the latest state requirements are linked on our COVID-19 resource page.

The Harford County Health Department has also been keeping up with rule changes from the state and has a contact form on their website to answer your questions about reopening and compliance. When interpretations are needed we are being flexible, as Harford County’s metrics remain the lowest among the Maryland jurisdictions with at least 1,000 cases.

We are also preparing for a gradual reopening of county facilities, but we will take a measured approach as we work to protect our county employees and the public.

On Monday, June 29, we will begin a limited reopening of our indoor Parks & Recreation facilities for recreation council or P&R program activities, by appointment only. Please check with your local P&R office for details. Pavilion rentals will resume on July 1 for outdoor gatherings.

Overall, Harford County residents and businesses have done a good job reopening safely and I am proud of our progress. But surges in other states are a reminder that we are not immune.  Social distancing, facemasks in public and thorough handwashing are still important ways we can protect ourselves and those around us.

This will be the last of my weekly updates, but I will continue keeping you informed of major developments for Harford County as needed. As always, if you have questions or concerns, our Citizens Affairs Division is here to help. Thanks & be safe.”
