Childhood Lead and Asthma Program of Harford County Health Department

The Lead and Asthma Program is a voluntary home visiting based program that is based off of the Green and Healthy Homes Initiative. The Program was created and designed to promote a healthy home environment based on the principles of a healthy home:
- Dry
- Well Ventilated
- Safe
- Contaminant Free
- Pest Free
- Clean
- Well Maintained
- Energy-Efficient
This program is designed to reduce lead exposure and to improve asthma outcomes of children. They Identify and reduce environmental asthma triggers and recognize early warning signs of asthma episodes. Improve coordination with medical providers with updated asthma action plans. Provide individualized referrals to community resources. Educate parents or caregivers on the impact of exposure to allergens. Assist parent or caregiver with organization and proper administration of the child’s medications. Reviewing possible sources of lead in the home, proper cleaning techniques, as well as the importance of nutrition. Along with all of these great services, they also provide eligible families with tools and supplies that have been proven to help reduce asthma triggers and lead levels including but not limited to:
- Mattress and Pillow Case Covers
- Medicine Containers
- Pest Management Kits
- Green Cleaning Supplies
- HEPA Vacuum Cleaners
