We asked our Artist of the Week, Barbara Ogden, the following questions to which she was so grateful to answer.
What can you tell us about yourself?
Wife and mother of 3 boys, live in Jarrettsville with my husband and two younger sons. I am an attorney, but I haven’t been in practice since my first son was born over twenty years ago. Started making jewelry at the kitchen table during naps and after putting the kids to bed. All these years later, I have a studio space in the basement – but I still like to work at the kitchen table and hang out with the family.
What year did your start?
Started making simple things in the late nineties and have been taking classes ever since. I am now torch fire enameling and metalsmithing, but the upcycling of silverware will always be a huge part of my work. The patterns are gorgeous, bringing them back to life is so much fun and sharing them with the public is a joy! I never get tired of hearing, “Oh, that’s my mom’s pattern!” Or, “My grandmother had this set!” It’s a beautiful thing to see strangers sharing memories and pure happiness at my vending tables!
Where can people see your art?
I have been selling on Etsy since 2009. Most of my silverware work can be found there at www.ogdenarthaus.etsy.com I am also quite proud of the reviews I have received on Etsy as I believe they give a rich and full overview of my work, shop and customer service.
The torch fired enamels and metalsmithing pieces are often shown and sold on IG and FB and at local festivals.
