15th annual After d’Arc Gala featured a night of under-the-sea magic
The Arc Northern Chesapeake Region (The Arc NCR) announced today it netted more than $130,000 from its 15th annual After d’Arc Gala, “Seas the Day: An Under the Sea Themed Gala” on Saturday, April 6, 2019 at Maryland Golf & Country Clubs in Bel Air. The organization’s largest fundraiser of the year, “Seas the Day” raised funds to support the nonprofit’s mission to empower people with differing abilities to live, work and thrive in Harford and Cecil Counties.
Attendees enjoyed dinner, themed cocktails, silent and live auctions and dancing to live music by The Real Geniuses and the MSE Reggae band. Special guests included mermaids from The Magic Continues, a Forest Hill-based character company that brought the evening’s under-the-sea theme to life.
The Arc NCR’s annual “Fund the Need” campaign raised $24,000 to purchase new homes and renovate The Arc NCR’s existing community living homes to make them more accessible for adults supported by the organization. Updates to existing homes include the addition of wheelchair ramps, accessible showers, raised floors and automatic doors. In some cases, carpets will be replaced with hardwood floors, making homes easier to navigate for those who depend upon wheelchairs for mobility.
“’Seas the Day’ was a beautiful way for our community to come together in support of those with differing abilities,” says Shawn Kros, CEO of The Arc NCR. “Funds raised through the event will allow us to support more people in need of accessible housing.”
