Call for Volunteers: Help Harford County’s Women in Need Feel Beautiful at The SUCCESS Project “Ladies Spa Day”

Children of The SUCCESS Project clients are asking for help to make their moms feel beautiful during the Ladies’ Spa Day planned for May 3 in Aberdeen. Volunteer beauty service providers, donations and sponsors are needed for the event, which is being organized by the SUCCESS Project and will benefit low-income women in Harford County.

Hair stylists, manicurists, makeup artists and more, along with donors and volunteers, are sought for the May 4 event, which is intended to help local women in need achieve a stronger sense of self confidence.

Beauty services are luxuries that women in need usually cannot indulge in; but they are an important part of creating confidence and building emotional wellness. That’s why The SUCCESS Project is coordinating a “Ladies Spa Day,” to give low-income women in Harford County an opportunity to enjoy a morning of personal attention with the goal of boosting their self-esteem. The organization is seeking manicurists, hair stylists, makeup artists, and massage therapists to give their time and talents to help make this event successful. The SUCCESS Project is also seeking event sponsors and product donations for glam bag giveaways, as well as volunteers to greet guests and serve refreshments. Ladies Spa Day will take place May 4 from 9:00 a.m. to noon at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Aberdeen. Interested parties can contact Jackie Shaffstall for more information, 410-939-2097 or jackie@hdgha.org.

According to Nicki Biggs, Executive Director of The SUCCESS Project, Ladies Spa Day was inspired by the positive feedback received after the non-profit hosted similar events for Mothers’ Day. She says, “Many people who struggle with challenging life circumstances carry a deep sense of shame, which can make it difficult to feel worthy of building a better life. The moms who attended our past events were so uplifted we thought it would be beneficial to host a program to reach many more women in the community.”

Carla Ciallella is a life coach for The SUCCESS Project, and she agrees that boosting self-confidence is critical for a person working to change their lives.  She explains, “Ladies Spa Day really puts our mission into a tangible act. Changing how someone feels about themselves is often the first step to changing their lives. Our programs empower participants with the tools they need to start again; but it is events like this which help cultivate the sense of self-worth necessary to keep clients inspired, motivated and willing to keep striving for more.”

The deadline to register as a Ladies Spa Day service provider is March 31. The number of services and providers that volunteer will determine the number of guests that can be accommodated.  Beauty treatments include haircuts/styling, facial waxing, makeup application, manicures, massages and more. All providers should bring their own equipment.
