Freedom Federal Credit Union Donates to Medstar Health Bel Air Through the Homeruns for Healthy Kids Program

The New Program, in Partnership with the Aberdeen IronBirds, Provides $2600 to Support Critical Pediatric Care Services

The Aberdeen IronBirds season may be over, but thanks to a new philanthropic partnership with Freedom Federal Credit Union, children will continue to benefit from the efforts of their players. With Homeruns for Healthy Kids, for every IronBirds player that hit a homerun during the season, Freedom Federal Credit Union donated $100 to benefit services for children battling critical and chronic illness at the MedStar Health Bel Air Medical Campus.

On October 15, representatives from Freedom and the Aberdeen IronBirds arrived at the MedStar Health Bel Air Medical Campus to tour the upgraded pediatric care unit and present $2600 in support of the services there.

Patients also received a special treat, as the IronBird’s mascot, Ferrous, came along to say hello to the young patients and doled out plenty of high-fives along with official IronBirds hats. General Manager, Matt Slatus, attended the tour, commenting, “It makes for a special season when our players are batting for more than just homeruns. It was great to meet some of the patients here today, and know that thanks to Homeruns for Healthy Kids, we are a part of their journey of healing.”

In celebration of Freedom Federal Credit Union’s first annual Homeruns for Healthy Kids program, IronBirds Mascot, Ferrous, sits with MedStar pediatric patients, Brandon Rosa and Angelique Madu as their dedicated care team gather with executive staff from Freedom Federal Credit Union and the Aberdeen IronBirds to accept the Credit Union’s donation on behalf of MedStar’s pediatric care unit in Bel Air.

Freedom Federal Credit Union’s President and CEO, Mike MacPherson, along with other executive staff, greeted the patients and staff at MedStar, and used the occasion to present MedStar officials with the donation for the unit. “Freedom is thrilled to sponsor this rewarding program,” stated MacPherson. “It is an honor for us to be a part of this amazing initiative, along with two other great Harford County institutions, and be able to offer our support to Harford County youth in need of the specialized care that MedStar provides.”

“Homeruns for Healthy Kids is providing new opportunities to better care for our pediatric patients, and we are extremely grateful for the continued generosity of Freedom Federal Credit Union and the new partnership with the Aberdeen IronBirds,” said Aaron Piccirilli, MedStar’s Vice President of Philanthropy Initiatives.

With Homeruns for Healthy Kids, Freedom builds on the existing partnership already established with MedStar Health. To date, Freedom has donated more than $32,000 to MedStar Health to support initiatives benefitting pediatrics and neurological rehabilitation services for children in Bel Air.
