More than $200,000 donated to nonprofits serving women, children in six years
The Women’s Giving Circle of Harford County has announced 14 grants totaling $45,750. Over its six years in existence, it has awarded more than $200,000 to nonprofits serving women and children in Harford County.
Founded in 2010, the Women’s Giving Circle of Harford County is dedicated to engaging women of all generations in the power of community philanthropy to address the needs of women and families.
The 2016 grant recipients are: Catholic Charities ~ Anna’s House, $1,500, for Camp Happy; Extreme Family Outreach, $5,000, for Extreme After School Program that assists 400 children per week; Girls on the Run, $2,250, for scholarships for participants in the Girls on the Run Harford/Cecil County in fall 2016; Habitat for Humanity, $5,000, for financial education and coaching/family services; Harford Community Action Agency, $2,500, for assets for change-individual development accounts; and Harford Family House, $1,500, for the Children’s Mentoring Program.
Grants were also provided to Inner County Outreach, $4,000, for Trinise Jones Summer Day Camp and After School Program; JAMSQUAD Cycling, $3,000, for One Kid One Bike; Ladew Topiary Gardens, $5,000, for Budding Botanist Field Trip and Outreach Program; LASOS: $3,000, for Through Their Lens Butterfly Group Program to build empowerment skills and goal-building for young girls; New Day Wellness, $2,500, for “Healing Hands,” a women’s jewelry program; Senior Express, $3,500, for database for transportation services; Susquehanna Workforce Network, $5,000, for Young Women Support Project, supporting 12 young pregnant women in a job training program; and Village at Lakeview, $2,000, for Homework Club table and chairs.
“The impact of women’s giving through community philanthropy is amazing to witness. In six years, the gracious and giving women in our Women’s Giving Circle of Harford County have provided more than $200,000 in grants to nonprofits that serve women, children and families in Harford County,” said Jodi Davis, chair. “The grants are for very targeted projects that make direct and positive impacts on the lives of so many. The Women’s Giving Circle funds are held and managed by the Community Foundation of Harford County as a group donor-advised fund. Community Foundation of Harford County–accredited by the Community Foundations National Standards Board, the nation’s highest honor for philanthropic excellence–is a nonprofit supported by the community through donations, enabling individuals, families and businesses to leave a legacy to benefit the causes that matter on a local level. It is one of 14 community foundations in Maryland and one of 700 across the country.
