County Council of Harford County

Harford County is seeking volunteers to fulfill one vacancy on the Audit Advisory Board.  The Advisory Board serves as an objective body to assist the County Council in fulfilling its oversight of the Office of the County Auditor.  A core function of the Board is to consider the reasonableness of the County Auditor’s risk assessment, strategy, and audit plan and seek assurance that action is taken where necessary.  This “third set of eyes” assists with ensuring audit reports are understandable to the County Council, County management officials and the public.  The Audit Advisory Board also ensures that audit recommendations are taken seriously and remediation is monitored to ensure effectiveness of local government operations.

The Advisory Board consists of eight members, including four at-large Harford County citizens.  Citizen members serve a four-year term which is coterminous with the term of the County Council.  Members are appointed by the County Council and may serve two full terms. The Board meets at least 3 times per year; regular meeting attendance is important in maintaining the continuity and effectiveness of the board.  Audit Advisory Board members serve without compensation.

Interested individuals should have audit, accounting, finance or related management experience.  Any Harford County resident interested in applying should send a letter of interest and a completed Board Application to Chrystal Brooks, County Auditor, 212 South Bond Street, 2nd floor, Bel Air, MD 21014 or auditor@harfordcountymd.gov by May 31, 2016.

Letters of interest should include reasons for interest in being appointed, a professional resume or summary of qualifications, and disclosure of any relationships to Harford County government or its elected or appointed officials, such as family members employed by the county, or business contracts within the County.

Harford County’s common Boards and Commissions Application can be found online at:  http://www.harfordcountymd.gov/DocumentCenter/Home/View/2069. Political Affiliations and Race fields on the form are not relevant to this Board’s membership.
