Harford County Public Library Foundation, Jarrettsville Lions Club host fifth annual car show

 

“Romancing the Chrome,” the largest car show of its kind in Northeastern Maryland, takes place on Saturday, April 9, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Jarrett’s Field, across from the Jarrettsville Library in Jarrettsville. The event is family friendly, and admission is free of charge.

The day, organized by the Harford County Public Library Foundation and  Jarrettsville Lions Club, features more than 200 automobiles, music, vendors, contests, food concessions, a beer garden and more. The Headlining Sponsor is Keene Dodge Chrysler Jeep Ram.

Car show owners will compete for the $500 Best in Show prize plus a Best in Class (first prize) of $75. Awards also will be presented for second and third place in each class.

MotorWeek’s Lauren Morrison will be the celebrity judge for the Best in Show competition.

The car classes are domestic (1993+), foreign (1993+), foreign (pre -1992), muscle (1993+), imports/tuners, custom (1949-92), street rod, historic (pre-1949), muscle cars (Mopar, Ford, and GM), Jeep/truck/SUV (pre-1992), Jeep/truck/SUV(post-1993) and stock (1949-92).

Those interested in entering their cars in the competition should visit romancingthechrome.org. Pre-registration costs $15 and ends April 3. Registration the day of the show costs $20 and takes place April 9 from 8 to 10 a.m. Dash plaques will be given to the first 150 registrants.

For those interested in being a vendor at the event, spaces are available for $60 each or $25 for nonprofits organizations.

Romancing the Chrome is organized by the Harford County Public Library Foundation and the Jarrettsville Lions Club and serves as a fundraiser for both organizations. In 2015, nearly 200 car enthusiasts participated in the show, and approximately 2,000 people attended, raising almost $11,000 that was split by both organizations.

Sponsorships are still available. In addition to the Headlining Sponsor, Keene Dodge Chrysler Jeep Ram, the Premiere Sponsor is Waste Industries. The Supporting Sponsors are Jarrettsville Creamery & Deli, Jarrettsville Federal Savings & Loan Association and 103.7 WXCY. The Contributing Sponsors are APG Federal Credit Union, B.E. Miller & Son Septic Services, Carl’s Door Service, Inc., Jacks Small Engines, Jarrettsville Pharmacy and North Harford Liquors.

The Harford County Public Library (HCPL) Foundation, a 501(c)(3) charitable organization established to raise funds to augment the financial resources of HCPL, will use proceeds to support the Summer Reading Challenge, Havre de Grace Library Building Campaign and other valuable programming. The Jarrettsville Lions Club, a 501(c)4 charitable organization whose mission includes the promotion of good citizenship, will use proceeds to support their Leader Dog Program, The Maryland School for the Blind and other local community projects.
