13 First-Time Scholars & 28 Recognized Carson Scholars Named
As the Carson Scholars Fund (CSF) celebrates 20 years of awarding scholarships, the CSF announced that 562 scholars in Maryland and the Mid-Atlantic have been named 2016 Carson Scholars. Among those to be honored at the annual Carson Scholars Fund Award Ceremony are 41 Harford County Public Schools (HCPS) students.
Each year, the CSF recognizes a select group of high achieving students in grades 4 – 11 who demonstrate outstanding academic achievement and humanitarian qualities. Students receive a $1,000 college scholarship award and the coveted honor of being named a Carson Scholar. In addition, students are able to renew their Carson Scholar status. These recognized winners have maintained high academic standards and a strong commitment to their communities.
This year, 13 HCPS first-time scholars and 28 recognized Carson scholars were named. The recipients being honored in Harford County are included below.
To celebrate their accomplishments, the Mid-Atlantic scholars will be recognized at the annual awards ceremony on Sunday, April 10, 2016, at the Hippodrome Theatre in Baltimore, Maryland. Sam Donaldson, retired ABC news anchor, will host the ceremony. The CSF will present Kimmie Meissner, World Champion and Olympic Figure Skater, with the Spirit of Achievement award. World-renowned and retired pediatric neurosurgeon Dr. Ben Carson will deliver the keynote speech.
