Belcamp, Md., July 1, 2015 — Mary Hastler, CEO of Harford County Public Library, has been elected president of the Maryland Library Association. Her term of office starts immediately and runs for one year.

As president, Hastler’s goal is to establish the Maryland Library Association as the leader in cultivating critical resources and services for its members while raising the awareness and knowledge of Maryland libraries.

Hastler has been an active member of the Maryland Library Association for more than 16 years. Prior to serving as president, she was legislative officer, president of the Public Services Division and served numerous committee appointments.

In addition to being elected president of the Maryland Library Association, Hastler was also named for the second time to The Daily Record’s Maryland’s Top 100 Women in 2015.

“Being elected president by my peers in the Maryland Library Association is quite an honor,” Hastler said. “And I am equally honored to be named to The Daily Record’s Maryland’s Top 100 Women for the second time.”

Hastler has served as CEO of Harford County Public Library for nearly five years. During that time, the library received The Daily Record’s Innovator of the Year Award in 2013 and 2014 for the launch of two STEM initiatives, Little Leapers and Little Leapers 3.5. Harford County Public Library also has been recognized as a nationally ranked STAR Library by Library Journal.

The Maryland Library Association, located on Hollins Street in Baltimore, was founded in 1923 and provides professional development and other leadership opportunities for members in addition to advocating principles and issues related to librarianship and library service. Members include library staff and trustees, library school students, libraries and friends of libraries representing a full spectrum of librarianship in Maryland.

Harford County Public Library operates 11 branches located throughout the county. The library serves more than 191,000 registered borrowers of all ages and has an annual circulation of more than 4.1 million.
