Library CEO Named Citizen of the Year by Omega Psi Phi Fraternity’s Iota Nu Chapter

Belcamp, Md., December 4, 2014 — Harford County Public Library CEO Mary Hastler received the Citizen of the Year Award from the Iota Nu Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. The award was presented November 15 at the fraternity’s 2014 Chapter Achievement Week Awards Luncheon held at the Richlin Ballroom.

Hastler was honored with the award because of her work in the community.

“I am humbled and honored to receive the Citizen of the Year Award from the Iota Nu Chapter of Omega Psi Phi,” said Hastler. “Being an active member of the community has always been important to me. Being recognized with so many other people who work to make our community strong is an honor.”

Also recognized at the event was Alexis McCoy, a student at Edgewood High School, who won the chapter’s essay contest. She received a $500 scholarship for her essay on the theme, “Considering the Political Climate in the United States and the World, How Much Value Do You Place on Your Right to Vote?” In addition, chapter members were celebrated for their accomplishments during the calendar year 2013-14. 

The luncheon’s keynote speaker was U.S. Army Col. Charles Gibson, who discussed, “Leveraging Our Collective Resources for Impact.”

Harford County Public Library operates 11 branches located throughout the county. The library serves more than 187,000 registered borrowers of all ages and has an annual circulation of more than 4.4 million.
