(Belcamp, Maryland – June 3, 2014) The Abingdon Library celebrated its 10th anniversary with 10 days of special events and programs, culminating with a cake-cutting and the annual Friends spring community yard sale which drew large crowds.
“We have customers who have been with us since day one and we have watched many families come together and grow,” stated Lisa Mittman, Branch Manager. “Children who participated in our story times are now volunteering for the Summer Reading Program. We love being a gathering place, not only for the Abingdon community, but the county as a whole!”
Special programs over the 10 days included a sensory story time, 3D modeling, LEGO club and a Master Gardeners’ plant clinic. The Friends of the Abingdon Library held their annual spring community yard sale on the front lawn with more than 70 vendors participating. The yard sale is a twice yearly fundraising event for the Friends with proceeds being used to support the many programs and initiatives of the Abingdon Library. The Friends also obtained a spectacular cake from La Cakerie for the occasion which was generously donated by owner Jason Hisley.
“We have become experts at hosting large library programs and community meetings. We hope that the exciting materials, programs, and services we offer every day, such as 3D modeling, and iPad minis for use in the branch, will keep our customers coming back for the next 10 years and more,” Mittman further explained.
