THE YEAR OF THE GIRL

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Harford County is celebrating its 2016 theme “The Year of the Girl” at the annual Steak & Burger / Youth of the Year Awards Dinner on Thursday, March 31, 2016. The award ceremony and dinner is an annual celebration honoring the local finalists from the four Clubs in the national Youth of the Year competition.  Last year’s dinner saw over 800 business leaders in attendance at the APGFCU Arena where the event will be held again this year. Continuing the new tradition of thanking business partners, donors, parents, and kids for their support, the event will be offered FREE to all attendees.

“This is our organization’s—and Harford County’s—largest fundraising event of the year, and we’ll be asking attendees to contribute to the lives of youth in Harford County while hearing directly from those young people. The night is about making a real investment in our county’s future,” explains new incoming Board President, Phil Crocker.

As is the tradition at the event, Club kids in attendance are served steak while the adults dine on burgers, a symbolic gesture recognizing the importance of the youth we serve. Wegmans is a Presenting Sponsor providing all the dinner entrees, side dishes, and salads, and Richlin Ballroom & Catering is a Presenting Sponsor donating their services for cooking and meal preparation.

“With our ‘Year of the Girl’ theme, we are highlighting the Club programs that work to help our girls grow into strong, confident, and empowered young women,” says Tim Wills, Executive Director. “Our four finalists embody the success that attending the Clubs and engaging in our programs can bring to our girls and to all youth. Every day we are transforming kids’ lives. At this event you will hear their stories and be provided the opportunity to help us transform more.”

The evening will include personal speeches from the four Club finalists and end with the announcement of the Harford County winner for the Youth of the Year competition—the highest honor a Club kid can achieve. The winner goes on to the state level competition.
