Nominations Sought for 2016 Harford County Historic Preservation Awards

Celebrating efforts to protect Harford County’s heritage, the Department of Planning and Zoning and the Harford County Historic Preservation Commission are now seeking nominations for the 2016 Historic Preservation Awards.  The annual awards are given to individuals and organizations whose contributions within Harford County demonstrate outstanding achievements in historic preservation. The awards will be presented in May in recognition of National Historic Preservation Month.

 

Nominations are welcome for the following awards, which may include multiple winners:  Preservation Project Award, Preservationist Honor Award, and Special Preservation Award. The Commission is particularly interested in recognizing projects that enhance citizen understanding of the county’s history; projects that protect and preserve the county’s significant historical structures, and individuals whose work and vision have preserved the richness of the county’s heritage.  The deadline to submit nominations is Thursday, March 31, 2016.  Anyone may submit a nomination.

 

Nomination forms can be found online at http://www.harfordcountymd.gov/691/Historic-Preservation, or via the Web page for the Dept. of Planning and Zoning by selecting “Historic Preservation” on the left side menu bar. Nominations forms can be submitted by email to [email protected]  or by U.S. Mail to the attention of Ivy Freitag, Dept. of Planning & Zoning, 220 S. Main St, Bel Air, Md., 21014.

 

The seven members of the Harford County Historic Preservation Commission are appointed by the county executive and work closely with the Dept. of Planning and Zoning to advocate for the preservation of the county’s historic and cultural resources. Commissioners meet monthly and are responsible for recommending properties to the list of Harford County Historic Landmarks, assisting property owners with the physical and financial aspects of preservation, and cultivating community support for the preservation and promotion of Harford County’s historic and cultural heritage.
