Free event hosted by Havre de Grace Housing Authority offers carnival style games, food and entertainment; vendor tables still available for businesses and organizations.
[Bel Air, MD] April 29, 2015—Where can a family enjoy line dance lessons, live music, carnival games and more, all locally and for free? The 4th annual Havre de Grace Housing Authority (HDGHA) Summer Jam promises these things, plus lots of other activities. This fun-for-all-ages street festival and community resource fair takes place on Saturday, June 6 from noon to 4:00 p.m. in the Somerset Manor neighborhood of Havre de Grace. There is no admission fee and the event is open to the public.
Organizers bill Summer Jam as a carnival-style fair with plenty of no-cost or low-cost activities for all ages. Children can participate in games (10 plays for a dollar) to win prizes, plus enjoy free moon bounces, face painting and a father-child basketball game among other activities. Adults can take part in the games, too, while also taking advantage of free health screenings, shopping vendor booths and learning about programs and services in the area. In addition, concessions will be available for purchase for a nominal fee (one dollar per treat) with fair favorites such as snow-cones, cotton candy and more.
HDGHA Family Self-Sufficiency Program Coordinator Ann Chealey says, “The HDGHA Summer Jam is one of our best-attended events. Hundreds turn out every year for this gathering that gives our residents and the rest of the community a fun way to interact. Together they play, dance and eat while learning about the many businesses and resources in the area.”
Vendor tables are available at no cost for government agencies and non-profits, and are only $27.50 for others. Chealey says, “Our intent in keeping the price for vendor participation low is to attract all sizes and types of organizations to the event so that attendees–those who live in Somerset Manor as well as other residents of Harford County and beyond–can discover the many great products and services that are available right next door.”
