Sunshine’s Angels
My daughter, Sunshine Royston is just that “sunshine” to the many people she came to know. With her infectious smile, kind heart, compassion and sense of humor I certainly named her well.
The mother of three small children and the bride to the love of her life. Sunshine is sister to two sisters and a brother, and our daughter. Life was on its way to complete.
One tragic day in September, 2008 Sunshine’s life here on earth ended. While celebrating her marriage in a week, the vehicle she was riding in was hit. Sunshine was the only one to lose her life.
To honor Sunshine’s legacy while keeping her spirit alive for her children and family, I started a non-profit organization called, Sunshine’s Angels. Our mission statement is,
“Benefiting Therapeutic Care for Trauma & Grief Stricken Children”.
While coping with the grief and loss of our Sunshine, I saw the need for help. Therapy and counseling are not always in the family budget and sometimes left untreated. The need for emotional healing is as important as medical healing. Sunshine’s Angels raises money to help with that treatment.
Our annual 5K race and 1 mile walk has raised over $50,000 in the past five years. Our donations have been distributed to organizations to treat children in this healing process. Roberta’s House, in Baltimore, Md., Olivia’s House, in York, Pa., and PEACE (Partnering with Equine to Assist in the Counseling Experience). We also have private therapists that work with Sunshine’s Angels.
Sunshine’s Angels annual 5K race and 1 mile walk is held in Northern Harford County. With the scenic route and community atmosphere, Pylesville, MD, proves year after year to be the best place to host our event. The race kicks off at 8:00 am on April 26, 2015. With approximately 250 participants, this event definitely warms the hearts of all. There are prizes for the top three runners, as well as the top three in each age group. The first 100 runners receive a race quality shirt and t-shirts are available to each participant (while supplies last). Sunshine’s Angels is accepting sponsors and of course welcomes all race participants.
