Fifth annual event hosted by Sappari Solutions and Harford Community College gives area residents
a one-stop drop-off point for unwanted goods.

[Bel Air, Maryland] March 26, 2015 –With just one month to go before the fifth annual Clear Your Clutter Day, organizers have announced that Vehicles for Change (VFC) will be participating in the collection. Professional organizers Sappari Solutions and Harford Community College (HCC) are hosting the event, which will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m on Saturday, April 25 at the college, 401 Thomas Run Road in Bel Air. For a nominal fee ($5.00), area residents can drop off one carload of items ranging from papers to be shredded to plastic grocery bags to clothes. Event partners will be onsite to facilitate recycling or reuse of discarded goods. Vehicles for Change will be accepting cars on site from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. on the Fallston Lot at HCC.

VFC accepts car donations from the public, repairs those meeting their quality standards and sells them at a low price to financially-challenged families and individuals referred to the group by social service agencies. This is the first year the group will be collecting vehicles on site. Also new this year, Rapid Refill will be collecting printer cartridges, and there will be expanded paper shredding provided by Chesapeake Shredding, with two trucks on site to expedite shredding. Attendees in search of refreshments will also welcome the addition of Tikiz Shaved Ice and Ice Cream who will donate ten percent of their proceeds from the day’s sales.

Other accepted materials at this year’s Clear Your Clutter Day include electronics and scrap metal, appliances, computers and monitors, cell phones, flattened cardboard boxes, plastic grocery bags, batteries, clothing, toys, household goods, eye glasses, hearing aids , books, like-new building supplies and tools, and like-new purses. Please note: televisions will NOT be accepted this year.

To encourage people to begin gathering unwanted goods, event organizers will hold a Clear Your Clutter Day Scavenger Hunt. Beginning April 1, Sappari Solutions will post one type of item per day on its Facebook page that participants can set aside to bring to Clear Your Clutter Day. Those who successfully bring all 25 Scavenger Hunt items to Clear Your Clutter Day will be entered to win a free one-year membership to the Bel Air Athletic Club.

“The scavenger hunt is a fun way to help Harford County residents identify items adding to the clutter in their homes,” says Nettie Owens, event coordinator and owner of Sappari Solutions.  “Sometimes all it takes is a little incentive to begin the rewarding process of streamlining your belongings.” Owens also recommends that residents looking to jumpstart their decluttering join the Facebook page, “March Into A Simpler Life.”

Last year, nearly 500 vehicles full of unwanted items were unloaded by volunteers. The 2014 event collected more than 11,000 lbs. of paper for shredding, 104 cell phones, 70 boxes of books, 200 eyeglasses, 100 purses, 50 laptops, three and a half tons of electronics, more than 12,000 lbs. of scrap metal and enough items for Goodwill to fill a 52-foot trailer, among other items.
