GUT HEALTH, THE KEY TO EVERYTHING: MOOD, WEIGHT CONTROL AND IMMUNITY

FALLSTON, MD – Harford County comes in at the bottom in the state for individuals at their healthy weight according to the latest Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene statistics. Not only that, but our diabetes rate has tripled over the last 10 years, and one out of every 4 of our children are either overweight or obese. This is not time to judge, but to get mad and get moving to retake our health!

Take the first step by signing up for Gut Health, the Key to Everything: Positive Mood, Weight Control and Immunity to be held on Wednesday January 28 from 7-9pm at the Fallston Fire Company, 2201 Carrs  Mill Road, Fallston, MD 21047.  This event will sell out. Register today at EventBrite http://ow.ly/GQFaY or by contacting Barb Ford: [email protected]. Regular admission is $5, early bird $3 before 1/14. No tickets will be sold at the door.

Local supporters, including: Fallston Dental, David’s Natural Market, Healthy Harford and a host of local businesses and non-profits, are joining together to create a fun filled, informative evening featuring local Registered Dietitian and Licensed Nutritionist, Lindy Ford who will be addressing the latest research on gut bacteria and how it can be altered for improved health.  Ms. Ford specializes in Integrative and Functional Nutrition which focuses on using a whole food diet to address disease prevention and healing, as well as help the body find its ideal weight.

This Harford County community collaborative takes its cues from the folks in Huntington, West Virginia, which reversed its status as America’s most unhealthy city through the grassroots work of residents who were fed up with what obesity and chronic disease were doing to their community. Lead by a local pastor Steve Willis and further promoted by Food Revolution celebrity Chef Jamie Oliver, this community took control over their food environment, eating habits, and exercise to make drastic improvements in their health.

Harford County has a history of addressing the obesity in our community through the work of Healthy Harford, the Harford County Health Department, University of Maryland Upper Chesapeake Health, the County Council, the Harford County Public Schools, the Havre de Grace Green Team, and the Town of Bel Air among others, however there is still much work to be done. A New Year, New You Seminar is a another step to help our residents understand in an engaging way, the benefits of good digestive health and how it can improve so many seemly unrelated health conditions. Simply put, improving gut health could literally be a game changer for many.

The evening, hosted by Fallston Dental, will include local exhibitor tables, door prizes, and David’s Natural Market goody bags.  This Event will be the catalyst for seeking the next step in health—cooking classes, seminars etc. Most of all it is a way for us to come together in community to start a revolution of our own, right here in Harford County Maryland. If Huntington, West Virginia can do it, we can do it!
