[Bel Air, Maryland] June 12, 2014 – Last week (June 2-6, 2014), Habitat for Humanity Susquehanna partnered with Lennar, one of the nation’s leading homebuilders, to construct two new homes in Aberdeen in just four days for two first-time homeowners. The partnership was part of the nationwide Home Builders Blitz 2014, in which Habitat for Humanity partners with builders across the country to construct 300 new homes in just one work week.

Lennar and their trade partners donated their time and material, working from dawn until dusk to build two new homes on a parcel in the 500 block of 1st Street in Aberdeen, Maryland. In addition to donated labor, Lennar Maryland and their trade partners donated all of the building materials, a total value of about $150,000. This resulted in a new duplex that will serve as homes for two deserving families: The Brooks family, which includes Adrienne Brooks and her 18-year-old son, who attends Harford Community College, and the Chavez-Morales family, which includes a mother and father and their three children, who attend Aberdeen Middle and High Schools.

The two families were presented with keys to their new homes in a dedication ceremony on Friday, June 6, which was attended by the volunteers from Habitat and Lennar who made this possible, as well as Councilman Richard C. Slutzky and Harford County’s Administrator of Community Development Tiffany P. Robinson.

“I’m thrilled that these families now have a place to call home” said Karen Blandford, Executive Director of Habitat for Humanity Susquehanna. “Constructing two homes in one week was a huge undertaking. It would not have been possible without the dedication of our friends at Lennar Maryland and their trade partners, as well as many other members of the community. Allow me to join with the Brooks and Chavez-Morales families to express my sincere thanks for their unbelievable contribution!”

Rod Hart, the president of Lennar’s Maryland Division commented, “Lennar will build 800 homes in the Maryland area by the end of 2014 and these two are the most important. It was a privilege for Lennar Homes to partner with Habitat for Humanity Susquehanna and use our collective skills and expertise to make a lasting, positive impact in the lives of two families, as well as the greater Aberdeen community.”
